This interpretation is supported by results reported later, which show that when the model is tested using not only EJV data but also WOV data, there is an increasingly significant positive relationship between foreign equity participation and location in the trade-oriented SEZs. It is rather a surprise that Beijing EJVs also have relatively higher foreign equity participation during the period. It might be because there is relatively high investment in hotel and other services in Beijing, which is associated with higher foreign equity participation as mentioned earlier.
This is due to a change in government policy designed to promote export-oriented projects. 4. 2 • Among 2136 observations, there are 36 observations with missing. industry, 19 observations with missing values of amount of total investment, 38 observations with missing values of foreign equity percentage and 36 observations with missing values of duration. Numbers do not add correctly due to rounding. SOURCE: EJV data base. 9 per cent in 1986. On the other hand, both the Japanese and Other Asian shares have increased.
9 per cent of EJVs. 3 per cent in 1985. 5 • Among 120 observations, there are 14 observations with missing industry, 6 observations with missing values of amount of total investment, and 19 observations with missing values of duration. Numbers do not add correctly due to rounding. SOURCE: WOV data base. 5 per cent for WOVs and EJVs respectively- but increasing. WOVs based in the SEZs and the 14 coastal cities were relatively small compared with EJVs in the same area, although their duration was longer.
